Known to be the longest street in the UAE, development for Sheik Zayed Street started in 1971. The roadway was finished in 1980. The street is named after the then Leader of the UAE and Leader of Abu Dhabi, His Majesty Sheik Zayed Canister King Al Nahyan. SZR begins as the Abu Dhabi - Ghweifat Worldwide Expressway at the Abu Dhabi - Saudi boundary and finishes as the Al Manama - Ras Al Khaimah Street at the Ras Al Khaimah Oman line.
