UAE News: Gang Robbing Bank Customers Busted in Fujairah Criminals Wanted in Another Emirate

Swift Police Action in Fujairah

A specialised Fujairah Police team has arrested a gang robbing bank customers accused of targeting bank customers, just hours after they stole AED 195,000 from a woman who had recently withdrawn the money from a bank.

According to Fujairah Police, the thieves were caught within about three hours of the crime, thanks to quick coordination between Fujairah and Sharjah police forces.

Authorities later revealed that the same suspects were wanted for similar offences in another emirate, and their capture ended a series of thefts aimed at unsuspecting bank customers across the UAE.

How the Robbery Happened

The incident took place earlier this month, when a woman withdrew a large amount of cash AED 195,000 — from a Fujairah bank. Shortly after leaving the premises, a group of men reportedly distracted her by claiming there was a problem with her car tyre.

While the woman stepped out to check, one of the suspects allegedly opened the opposite car door and stole the bag containing the money.

Police were alerted immediately, and a specialised investigative team was formed to track down the culprits. Using CCTV footage and vehicle data, officers were able to identify and locate the suspects within hours.

Cooperation Across Emirates

The operation was conducted in coordination with Sharjah Police, as the suspects were already wanted in related theft cases there. Once located, the gang members were arrested and handed over to the public prosecution for legal action.

Brigadier General Ali Rashid bin Awash Al Yamahi, Director General of Police Operations in Fujairah, praised the teamwork between the emirates and highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s dedication to public safety.

“The speed of the investigation and the coordination between police forces demonstrate the UAE’s readiness to deal with such crimes decisively,” he said in a statement.

Safety Tips for Bank Customers

Police urged the public to take precautions when withdrawing large sums of money. Here are some practical safety tips to help avoid similar incidents:

  • Try to avoid withdrawing or carrying large amounts of cash. Use electronic transfers where possible.

  • If you must withdraw cash, do so discreetly and avoid talking about it in public.

  • Check your surroundings when leaving a bank or ATM.

  • Do not engage with strangers who approach you unexpectedly after leaving a bank.

  • If you feel you’re being followed, drive to a safe location or head directly to the nearest police station.

 What Happens Next

The arrested suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and trial. Under UAE law, organised theft and crimes involving large sums of money carry strict penalties, including imprisonment and deportation for non-citizens.

Police reiterated that public cooperation — quick reporting and awareness  is crucial in preventing and solving such crimes.
